Western Australia’s premier EnduroCross series heads east as Round 2 of the Brookton Pony Express roars into Aldersyde for the first time ever this weekend.
Event organisers Dirt High Promotions have worked through recent rain to carve an all new 17.5 km course traversing riverbeds, motocross-style jumps and wide-open canola fields.
Dirt High Promotions owner Willie Thomson said conditions are expected to be muddy and slick after recent rain across the region.
“It’s going to be a completely different feel with the amount of rain we have had,” he said.
“This is an exciting, technical track that will be a good challenge for riders of all abilities.”
The event will feature a one-off appearance of Australian EnduroCross legend Riley McGillivray, who is flying across from the east cost to race in this weekend’s event.
The seven-time Australian EnduroCross champion will line-up this weekend as the favourite from the race, as he looks to take it to the best of Western Australia in an exciting showdown at this new track.
McGillivray will be up against championship leading pairing of Charlie Creech and Riley Moritz in Aldersyde, after they took the opening round win away from pole sitters Blake Klansjeck and Scott Hewitt with a bold lap one move in Pingelly earlier this month.
Klansjeck had dominated Saturday’s Pole Shuffle qualifying, having taken the fastest lap to give him pole position for Sunday’s race with a statement 24.3 second gap to second place.
Series favourites Ben Lynch and Trent Stone of Bunbury KTM will be looking for a much-improved showing in Aldersyde, after the defending champions slumped to P6 in a disappointing outing in Pingelly.
Meanwhile in the junior category, Bunbury KTM’s Oskar Thomas will be looking to make it back-to-back perfect weekends. The junior prodigy made it a clean sweep in Pingelly, dominating every practice session, taking the fast lap in the pole shuffle and then leading every lap to win Round 1 of the Junior Pony Express.
Mr Thomson said Pingelly was a fantastic opening round and he can’t wait to kick things off again this weekend in Aldersyde.
“We’ve had a high-energy start to the season, and Aldersyde is always a favourite with our riders,” he said.
“We’re heading into river country, get ready for some mud!”
Round 2 of the Brookton Pony Express, powered by GASGAS Australia, is set to take place August 1 – 3, with action kicking off Friday night with Flat-Track Motocross.
